HPR observed in MSA patients. Representative examples of HPR observed in (A) MSA-P (a 61-year-old woman; disease duration = 2 years) and (B) MSA-C (a 66-year-old woman; disease duration = 7 years) patients are shown. In (A), HPR is located predominantly at the posterior part of the lateral margin of the putamen. Moderate hypointensity of the posterior half of the putamen is also seen. Putaminal atrophy is not observed in this case. HPR observed in the MSA-C patient (B) is not easily distinguishable from that of a normal subject (Figure 1C).
