Histological assessment of the hippocampus CA1 segment on day 5 shows a substantial damage after cardiac arrest, but there were no differences between the resuscitated animals. The animals in the non-ischemic sham group were not randomized, and thus indicated in italic style. These animals are not included in the main statistical analysis
