Microscopic pathological findings in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) of the autopsy case. Elastica van Gieson (EVG) staining showed disruption and duplication of the internal elastic lamina (A). Alcian blue staining demonstrated faint but diffuse staining of the thickened intima (B). High-power field of the area where disruption of the internal elastic lamina was observed (C, D). No lipid deposition or calcification suggesting atherosclerosis and no inflammatory cell infiltration were observed (hematoxylin and eosin staining, C).
