At the pelvic region, the gluteus minimus and medius, and especially the iliopsoas (arrows) and rectus abdominis (double arrows) are severely affected (a). Selective involvement of the semitendinosus, sartorius, and gracilis muscles at mid-thigh level (b). At the mid-lower-leg level the anterior tibialis and the peroneal group are involved, while muscles of the posterior compartment were well preserved (c).
