This figure presents the relationship between serum cholesterol levels and the risk of stroke measured from the electronic medical records of 2.4 million patients over a two year time span. Error bars indicate 95 % confidence intervals. The LDL levels calculated with the Friedewald equation are known to be systematically lower than direct measurements of LDL cholesterol [49]
